KCAD students are an important part of the university workforce. There are limited number of student employees on campus working in a number of diverse areas. Working while attending KCAD helps students earn income to assist them with their educational expenses. Open positions will be emailed to your Ferris email account. For fall semester, this usually happens during the month of August.

Open Summer Student Employment Positions

US students must be enrolled at least half-time. International students must be enrolled full-time during the fall and/or spring semesters. In the case of summer semester, students must either be enrolled half-time for summer or be registered as half-time or more for the fall semester. Students working during the break between Fall and Spring semesters must be enrolled at least half-time for Spring semester.

High school graduates are eligible to work during the summer after their high school graduation and prior to starting their freshman year (fall semester) provided they are registered for fall semester at least half-time and are enrolled in a degree granting curriculum.

 UICA Community Arts camp assistant, $10.10 per hour

Summary of Position

The Community Arts camp is a 6-week program running Monday-Thursday from June 13-30 & July 11-28, 2022, for students ages 10-13 years old. There’s a possibility that the hours could be reduced if a class is cancelled due to low enrollment.

The UICA is looking for a Student Assistant who will conduct curbside student check ins prior to the start of class and check out at the end of classes. The Student Assistant will assist the Lead Instructor with the classroom set-up, cleaning, helping students with project and classroom supervision. This is a temporary position, with a maximum of 110 hours for the duration of the program.

Hours: 8:00AM-1:00PM Monday-Thursday from June 13 – July 28, 2022 (excluding the week of July 4-7, 2022) plus a 2-hour orientation. Maximum 122 hours.

Responsibilities & Duties

Student Assistant must keep accurate daily records of the students checking in and checking out of each class session.

Student Assistant will be responsible for helping the Lead Instructor to assist and mentor the students with projects in class, as well as assisting with supervising classroom management.

Student Assistant will work with the summer camp instructor from 8:00AM-1:00PM, Monday through Thursday, from June 13 – July 28, 2022. This includes 4 hours of direct contact time per day (M-Th) with the youth and 1 hour of prep time for each class session.  

Staff attendance is mandatory for the Student Orientation Day on Wednesday, June 8, 2022.

Qualifications

Required Education

  • College Junior or Senior
  • Art/Design background
  • Minimum 2.8 GPA

Preferred Qualification

  • Experience working with/mentoring/teaching youth ages 14 and up
  • Ability to express ideas clearly in writing and images
  • Active members of the creative community
