While attending Kendall, Laura was tireless in her efforts to reach out to her community, volunteering for Senior meals on Wheels. Since graduation, she continues her volunteer service, coordinating and participating in numerous projects that teach her students about the value of volunteerism and giving back to one's community.

An art education teacher at Ovid-Elsie High School near St. Johns, Michigan, she established the school's first chapter of the National Art Honor Society in 2004, and encourages members to use their talents to serve their community. past events include the Empty Bowls Soup Dinner fundraiser; the Spring Arts Carousel where students taught art workshops for children on Saturday mornings; volunteering on building improvement crews working on the Elsie Arts Council; origami flower-making workshops; a Sunday school room mural painting at mount Hope Church in Ovid; and repainting of the Elsie Fire Station sign.

In addition, Laura works to expose her students to world- class art, organizing a number of significant field trips to Grand Rapids, Detroit and Chicago, and bringing them to Kendall for the spring open House Exhibition. All the while, she actively pursues her own studio work as evidenced by numerous solo and group exhibitions and participation in some of Michigan's most prestigious annual juried competitions.
