Brenda Sipe, Ed.D., Director
Dr. Brenda Sipe holds an M.F.A. from Michigan State University, and an Ed.D. from Ferris State University. She is Director of Continuing Studies at KCAD, with a background in teaching, community engagement, and organizational development. Her doctoral work explored the use of Design Thinking in an organizational culture of innovation. She is responsible for recruiting, training, empowering, and retaining staff; creating robust, student-centered program offerings; marketing to a diverse audience; and balancing the budget. She has served as co-chair of the college’s Strategic Planning committee, and is currently a member of KCAD’s Emergency Management Leadership Team, as well as Ferris’ HLC Accreditation sub-committee on Assumed Practices. In addition to her duties, Dr. Sipe instructs courses and presents workshops and lectures, both at KCAD and elsewhere. She has been adjunct faculty at several colleges, and taught for three summers at Interlochen Center for the Arts.
Sierra Casanova, B.A.A., Coordinator
Sierra Casanova joined the Continuing Studies staff in fall of 2014. As Continuing Studies Coordinator, she assists with facilitating the non-credit art and design programs at KCAD. Her specialties lie in educational program management, leadership development, and capacity building. Prior to joining the Continuing Studies team, Casanova administered educational and developmental programs with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Grand Rapids Youth Commonwealth, Davenport University, and Michigan Campus Compact. From 2008-2011, Casanova served three years in AmeriCorps, providing human services; contributing to disaster relief efforts; and cementing her fervor for the arts, education, and community development. Casanova is a Central Michigan University graduate with a B.A.A. in Two-Dimensional Art and an emphasis in photography.
