Everything you need to know about using your technology at KCAD.


 

Software

You can now order Adobe products right here on the KCAD website. To do so, please select the pay with a credit card link below to go to Ferris' Adobe CC for Students page. There you can pay with a credit card or PayPal account. You will then be able to download your software directly to your computer.

KCAD offers free Microsoft Products to current students through the Microsoft Student Advantage. Through this program, students will be able to download products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and more free of charge. To get your free download of Microsoft products follow these simple steps:

  1. Visit the Ferris State University Microsoft Office 365 login portal
  2. Sign in with your MyFSU credentials ([email protected] and MyFSU password)
  3. On the download site select your language and click install
  4. Once installed you will need to sign in with your MyFSU credentials ([email protected] and MyFSU password) in order to license the software

If you are in need of Microsoft Windows you will need to order this from an outside vendor.

Antivirus

All Windows users are required to have antivirus software on their computers. Mac OSX users are also encouraged to use antivirus software as a precaution. There are several recommended options available, including free ones. Please visit the Ferris State University Supported Antivirus page for more information and links to software.


 

Wireless

KCAD has implemented a secure wireless network throughout the college. To connect to this wireless, select KCADwifi in the available networks list on your computer. Select WPA2 Personal as the security type. For the WPA2 password, please contact KCAD IT in 17 Fountain St. NW, room 404 or at 616.259.1129.

Once connected, point your web browser to the KCAD Wireless Network Registration page (kcdnetsen.kcad.edu/registration). Once you read and agree to the terms of use, you will be presented with a welcome page. Select start on this page. Then you will be presented with the user login page. Type your MyFSU user name and password. At this point your computer will register with the new wifi. This is a one-time registration step and you should not have to do it on the same system twice, unless the account is inactive for 120 days. Once the registration is finished, you will be on the network and can use it freely. The system should automatically log you in when you are near the new wifi in the future.

If you forget your password click on the password help link below the login, this should allow you to change your password. If you continue to have problems contact the helpdesk at [email protected] or call 616.259.1129.


 

Printing

KCAD has printers available for students to use for school-related printing. These printers are located throughout the building for each department to use. Please treat all of the College's printers with care and make sure you are printing only what you need.

If you would like assistance in installing printer please stop by the Tech Office in room 404 in the main building.

When on campus you can access the printer installation page for instructions on installing lab printers if you would like to install the printers yourself.


 

Equipment Checkout

The IT department at KCAD has the following equipment available for checkout to students:

  • Display adapters
  • Cintiq pens
  • SD Card readers
  • MacBook Pro power adapters
  • iPhone Charging Cables w/ Power Adapter

If you wish to checkout any of this equipment please bring your student ID or current state ID/drivers license to room 404 or 405 of the Fountain St. building. This equipment is to be checked out for daily use only and must be returned by the end of the day. The equipment can be returned to room 404 of the Fountain St. building from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Please note, equipment that is not returned or is returned damaged is subject to fines and/or replacement costs.
