21 Tuesdays - feat. Ida Applebroog & Paul McCarthy
Free exclusive weekly screenings of episodes from the Art21 series (Art in the Twenty-First Century) followed by open and accessible discussions about the creation and consumption of contemporary art. During each session we will show two 15 minute segments featuring artists from the 7 season series. Following the screenings feel free to head back to class/work, or stick around for some informal discussion (led by a local artist) about the featured artists and enjoy coffee and sweets from Nantucket Bakery.
March 3rd 11:30am - 12:30pm
Host: Hugo Claudin, Curator at Linc Gallery & Owner/Operator of Mexicains Sans Frontieres
Featured Artists: Ida Applebroog (Power) & Paul McCarthy (Transformation): What types of power do artists have? In what ways can art empower people? How are social mores and conventions of social behavior established and how are they enforced? From politics to popular culture, power and transformation pervades daily life. The artists in these Art21 episodes explore personal and cultural histories, challenge authority, and use humor to tackle difficult subject matter.
