21 Tuesdays - feat. Mary Reid Kelley & Sally Mann
Free exclusive weekly screenings of episodes from the Art21 series (Art in the Twenty-First Century) followed by open and accessible discussions about the creation and consumption of contemporary art. During each session we will show two 10 minute segments featuring artists from the 7 season series. Following the screenings feel free to head back to class/work, or stick around for some informal discussion (led by a local artist) about the featured artists and enjoy coffee and sweets provided by the Fed Galleries.
February 17th 11:30am - 12:30pm
Host: Heather Duffy, Exhibitions Manager at ArtPrize
Featured Artists: Mary Reid Kelley & Sally Mann Mary Reid Kelley and Sally Mann, both women artists from the American South, synthesize art-historical materials and styles to produce black and white images in response to historical events and places. The overlap between these themes introduces the question: In these episodes of Art 21, are history and place irreversibly connected¬–can we really separate the record of an event from the place where it happened, or the legacy of a place from the events it has seen?
