December 1, 2018 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Location: The Fed Galleries @ KCAD (17 Pearl St. NW)

The KCAD Art History Club, KCAD Pride Club, and The Fed Galleries @ KCAD present ALTERNATE ENDINGS, ACTIVIST RISINGS.

Organized by Visual AIDS to commemorate World AIDS Day / A Day With(Out) Art (December 1, 2018), ALTERNATE ENDINGS, ACTIVIST RISINGS is a series of short films that highlights the impact of art in AIDS activism and advocacy today. The series features compelling films from six inspiring community organizations and collectives: ACT UP NY, Positive Women’s Network, Sero Project, The SPOT, Tacoma Action Collective, and VOCAL NY.

The program represents a wide range of organizational strategies, from direct action to grassroots service providers to nation-wide movement building, while considering the role of creative practices in activist responses to the ongoing AIDS crisis. ALTERNATE ENDINGS, ACTIVIST RISINGS seeks to reflect the persisting urgencies of today’s HIV/AIDS epidemic by pointing to pressing and intersecting political concerns, including HIV criminalization, Big Pharma, homelessness, and the disproportionate effects of HIV on marginalized communities. At a moment of growing interest in the histories of AIDS activism, this film series foregrounds contemporary engagements between activists, artists, and cultural workers on the front lines.

The films will be shown on a loop inside The Fed Galleries @ KCAD during the following days/times:

Saturday, December 1 from 2pm-4pm
Monday, December 3 from 11am-1pm

Free and open to the public - drop-ins welcome!
