Closing Reception - The Land of Here and Now: Five Years of Artists at Shared Space Studio

Join the Curators and Artists of Shared Space Studio for the closing of our Summer exhibition, The Land of Here and Now: Five Years of Artists at Shared Space Studio.

The Land of Here and Now exhibition features work by 27 former artists in residence of Shared Space Studio. For the past five years the studio has offered visiting artists facilities and support in a secluded and beautiful setting with the chance to meet and exchange with other artists as well as the responsibility of engaging the local community in Pentwater, MI. This exhibition brings together a diverse group of artists from the US and Canada and showcases the spirit of collaboration and creative placemaking.

Scheduled Performances:
Emo-Func (2016) is a series of wearable costumes by Aliya Bonar that physically manifest everyday disempowering thoughts. This series explores expressions of "You Don't Understand Me".

The garments will be worn by local performers during the opening and closing reception of the exhibition. The performance was developed collaboratively between performers and the artist, each contributing their own perspective on that emotion and how it would be embodied in performance.

Duration: 5 minutes (ongoing throughout closing event)

1,000 Years of Trial Child:
*Unfortunately the artist has decided to cancel this performance
A new, sc-fi, trage-comedy play by Scotty Slade Wagner, is a period piece on the set of a sitcom being shot in a time in which robot replicas of would-be children can be created from two parents' DNA and psychological profiles. By allowing the customers to practice on replicas of their own children, trial children have supplanted previous methods of child rearing with a new and improved model. Programmed to teach parents when they're, "raising it right, or raising it wrong," this sitcom-play closely and humorously examines how traditional forms of disseminating knowledge through human interactions are supplanted with dependence on the digital archive, i.e., the internet, through screen viewership. 1,000 Years of Trial Child is a hyper-realized fictitious portrayal of life today pushed to the max.
