What Were You Wearing? Exhibition
Sexual Violence Survivor Art Installation
This installation provides a tangible response to one of our culture’s most pervasive rape myths: that revealing clothing leads to assault. It was developed out of an advocacy lens by Dr. Mary Wyandt-Hiebert and Ms. Jen Brockman of the University of Kansas. Their work was inspired by Dr. Mary Simmerling’s poem, “What I Was Wearing.”
Outfits featured have been recreated from interviews Ms. Brockman and Dr. Wyandt- Hiebert conducted with student survivors of sexual assault from around the country.
