Congratulations to the Winners of the 2014 Art Day Competition!
Every year, KCAD invites high school seniors who are considering a future in art and design to lay their talents on the line in the annual Art Day Competition. The students are asked to bring their three best pieces to the table, and in return the College puts $200,000 in total scholarship awards up for grabs.
Creativity lives in the Art Day Competition! A participating student scopes out the other entires
“These students have to take a risk in showcasing this creativity that’s so essential to who they are, and they have to do it alongside other outstanding work,” said Kristopher Jones, Director of Talent Acquisition at KCAD. “The possibility of failure is important for them to face because failure is crucial to creative growth. As they go on to become KCAD students and eventually professional artists and designers, this is the world these students will inhabit: one in which creative individuals constantly challenge each other to dig deeper, get better, and go further.”
Typically, the event features a showcase of work that is nothing short of amazing, and this year was no exception. 130 students from near and far (Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Minnesota, and even Jamaica!) submitted 390 pieces, and the blind jury (comprised of KCAD faculty members Jason Alger, Adam DeKraker, Boyd Quinn, and Jaime Watson) needed every second of their allotted three hours of review time to select the most deserving entries.

Alongside 27 other high school seniors who had come for the All-College Open House (held in conjunction with the Art Day Competition), the students also connected with KCAD faculty, explored the campus, and marveled at the KCAD student work on the walls. Having now soaked up some tremendous creative energy, these students will return home to finish their senior years with a heightened understanding of where their own talents can lead them.
So congratulations to the winners of the 2014 Art Day Competition! We can’t wait to see what the future holds for you.

*THANK YOU to the countless individuals from the KCAD community – staff, faculty, and students – who worked their tails off to make the 2014 Art Day Competition and the All-College Open House a memorable experience for the visiting students and their families! None of this would have been possible without your help.
