KCAD Announces Regional Winners of 2014 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

Posted December 20, 2013 in Public

This year, KCAD was once again honored to be one of 115 affiliate nationwide organizations to participate in The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Now in it's 90th year, the competition is the country's oldest and most respected scholarship and recognition program for student achievement in the arts.

Creative teens in grades 7-12 were invited to submit work in 28 categories of art and writing, including film and animation, video game design, sculpture, photography, fashion design, poetry, journalism, humor, dramatic script and science fiction. The submissions are first judged locally with top winning works then presented to national panels of creative leaders that judge the top entries. This year, notables jurors include Paula Poundstone, Tony Hawk, and Davy Rothbart, to name a few.

KCAD is excited to announce that jurying for 2014 has been completed for the West Central Michigan region. Please click here for a list of the region's award winners by school and submission category.

At the national level, fifteen graduating high school seniors will be awarded with Portfolio Gold Medals, which include a $10,000 scholarship for each winner (awards sponsored and funded by the Alliance at the national level). Additional scholarships are made available to Portfolio Silver Medalists and through sponsored awards and stipends to summer arts programs  (sponsored and funded through the Alliance). The Alliance will offer more than $270,000 in direct scholarships and awards this year.
