Art Education Student Lynn Loubert Elected to Board of Directors for the National Art Education Association Lynn Loubert, a student in the Art Education program, has been elected to the Board of Directors for the National Art Education Association (NAEA). Loubert will serve a two-year term as Preservice Division Director Elect, followed by a two-year term as Preservice Division Director.

Photography Alum Robert Andy Coombs, now a Grad Student at Yale University, Shows First Work at Yale School of Art Robert Andy Coombs (’13, BFA Photography) was recently profiled by the Yale News in a piece exploring his first exhibition of work as a student in Yale’s MFA Photography program.

Illustration Alum Richard Oversmith Opens Solo Exhibition at North Carolina Gallery Richard Oversmith ('95, BFA Illustration) is currently showing a new collection of his impressionistic landscape paintings at the Depot Room in Tryon, N.C. Oversmith, who paints in the “plein air” style, frequently immerses himself in the natural splendor of North Carolina as part of his process.

Interior Design Student Sarah Petoskey Wins IIDA Michigan Student Video Competition  Sarah Petoskey, a student in the Interior Design program, won the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Michigan chapter's 2019 Student Video Competition. Her winning entry has earned her an all-expenses-paid trip to the 2019 IIDA Shift Student Conference in Dallas, Tex., where she'll have the opportunity to network with over 300 other student participants from around the country.

Fashion Studies Alum Chelsey Sawallich Designs New Womenswear Line with an Emphasis on Sustainability Chelsey Sawallich ('17, BFA Fashion Studies) has designed a new womenswear collection, Michigan Wildflower, that will be inclusively sized, sustainably sourced, and expertly crafted by fairly compensated sewists in Lansing, MI. Sawallich has also started a Kickstarter campaign to help launch the line.

Alum Sandra Hansen Gleans Cultural Perspective from Recent Artist Residencies Sandra Hansen (’13, BFA Painting; ’16, MFA) has been accepted into an artist residency at Wollemi National Park near Sydney, Australia. From January 9 through March 26, 2019, Hansen will be collecting fallen leaves from the park’s Wollemi trees, turning them into paper pulp and, ultimately, paper with a color palate inspired by the park’s ancient cave paintings. Hansen also hosted Chinese artists Hui Hui and Zheng Wenke for an artist residency at Art Farm in Fennville, Mich. through her Artists Cultural Exchange program.

KCAD Collaborates with Charlevoix Circle of Arts on Upcoming High School Art Exhibition, Portfolio Reviews, Scholarship Opportunities On March 9, Charlevoix Circle of Arts will open Spotlight on Innovation, an exhibition showcasing artwork from local high school students that was first reviewed by KCAD representatives. KCAD also hosted the students for a portfolio review day, during which $64,000 in scholarships were awarded.
