Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University announced today that Max Shangle is resigning from his position as Dean and will become the President of Harrington College of Design in Chicago.

For over 30 years, Shangle has been an invaluable asset to the College in a number of different capacities. As a professor, he served as the Department Chair of the Furniture Design Program and as Chair of the College Senate. He was also a coordinator and co-creator of KCAD’s MBA Certificate in Design Innovation Management. Outside of the College, Shangle has been a steadfast leader in the furniture industry, serving on a host of furniture design competition juries, including the prestigious Pinnacle Awards for American Society of Furniture Designers, and Design Emphasis for the International Woodworking Fair.

“Max has been essential to ensuring KCAD's ability to adapt to the ever-changing landscape of the design industry and design education,” said Vice President Sandra Davison-Wilson. “His dedication, passion, and forward-thinking leadership were instrumental in helping us realize our aspirations of sustainable growth and increased community engagement."

Shangle’s departure will be felt across campus and around the region, but his work here has left an impression on the institution that will not be soon forgotten. The potential he always saw in KCAD will continue to be pushed to new heights by the culture of innovation and ingenuity he helped create.

"My time at Kendall has been both challenging and rewarding in countless ways; I am grateful for the privilege of being part of Kendall these many years. I have learned, experienced much and been afforded opportunities well beyond my expectations, for this I am also thankful," said Shangle.

“Max’s departure from the College is a momentous event, but he will always be in our hearts and memories,” said President Dr. David Rosen. “He will always be a member of our family and welcome at our table.”

Shangle will officially assume the position of President of Harrington College of Design on August 28, 2013.
