KCAD to Celebrate 2019 Graduates, Student Work with Annual Student Exhibition, Free/Open to Public
As Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University (KCAD) closes out the 2018-2019 academic year, the college is again proud to place its students center-stage with a group of exhibitions and events that are free and open to the public. Everyone is invited to explore the outstanding student work that will be presented, and to learn more about the wide variety of specialty programs the college has to offer those interested in a career in art, design, art history, art education, or architecture.
The 2019 Annual Student Exhibition, running May 7-11, will transform the entire KCAD campus into a massive gallery. Students from each of the college’s undergraduate and graduate degree programs will showcase their best work throughout all floors of both the 17 Fountain St. NW building and the Woodbridge N. Ferris Building at 17 Pearl St. NW.

The 2019 Excellence Awards Exhibition, running May 1-16 in The Fed Galleries @ KCAD (17 Pearl St. NW), will spotlight the 16 graduating seniors who exhibit a rare level of mastery and accomplishment within their chosen field of study. In earning Excellence Awards, these students have reached the pinnacle of KCAD undergraduate achievement.
A two-part Masters Thesis Exhibition, currently on display in The Fed Galleries @ KCAD, features the fully-developed work of those students who have completed their graduate studies. These students have spent their time at KCAD broadening both their technical abilities and their understanding of their respective disciplines, and this exhibition offers a rare glimpse into the process, methodology, and passion that went into the compilation of their final thesis projects. Part I of the exhibition was held April 10, while Part II will run from April 16–27.
Master of Fine Arts work from KCAD's 2018 Masters Thesis Exhibition
On Thursday, May 9, KCAD’s Master of Arts in Visual and Critical Studies program will present its annual Graduate Forum, showcasing the thesis research of graduating students. The presentations will take place in room 217 of the Woodbridge N. Ferris Building from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm.
On Friday, May 10, the Digital Art and Design program will host a screening of outstanding animations and videos created by 2019 graduates at 4:00 pm in room 221 of the Woodbridge N. Ferris Building.
The theme for KCAD’s 2019 Annual Student Exhibition and related events, “Emerge,” reflects both the transformation of 2019 graduates from students to creative professionals, as well as the growing contemporary recognition of the value of creative education and the ability of artists, designers, art historians, and art educators to profoundly influence and shape our world.
“The Annual Student Exhibition at KCAD, including the Master’s Thesis exhibitions, is the highlight of our academic year,” said KCAD President Leslie Bellavance. “This is a week of honoring our students’ creative accomplishments as a prelude to the Commencement ceremony for our graduating students. We are very excited to exhibit the work of the college’s undergraduate and graduate degree programs and invite the public into our galleries and studios to experience the amazing transformative power of creative thinking and artistic expression. We hope everyone feels welcome to join us in this celebration.”
