KCAD to Host National Portfolio Day October 22
Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University (KCAD) is excited to host the 2023 West Michigan National Portfolio Day, an event offering budding artists and designers the chance to have their portfolio of creative work reviewed and connect with representatives from 22 nationally-accredited schools of art and design.
High school students, parents, teachers, guidance counselors, and college transfer students are invited to attend National Portfolio Day on Sunday, October 22 from 1–5pm inside KCAD’s 17 Fountain St. NW building in downtown Grand Rapids.
National Portfolio Day is a unique opportunity for those who wish to pursue an education in art and design. Students will be able to meet individually with professional representatives of accredited colleges and universities and receive valuable feedback and guidance on their existing creative work.
Attendees will also have the chance to explore specific schools’ program offerings and get focused answers to questions about professional careers in art and design, as well as the availability of scholarship and financial aid.
“KCAD is proud to host National Portfolio Day West Michigan. It is an excellent chance for students to explore their creative future and experience a taste of what it is like to attend a professional art and design school,” said KCAD President Tara McCrackin. "We look forward to welcoming people who share our passion and commitment to creativity.”
Students are advised to bring their best and most recent work but are also encouraged to include works in progress or sketchbooks, as portfolio reviewers are equally interested in learning about the creative processes and method of thinking behind the work.
Portfolios can be presented as original work or on screen. To make the most of the event, attendees are urged to bring up to 10-15 works and discuss their work with as many schools as possible.
Prior to National Portfolio Day West Michigan, attendees are also invited to a KCAD Exploration Day including open house information sessions featuring all KCAD programs, admissions, financial aid, student life, and insight into how to make the most of the portfolio reviews. The event also offers the ability to connect directly with faculty in programs of interest and take a self-guided tour of campus.
