Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University (KCAD) alumnus Taylor Overbey (’12, BFA Digital Media; ’15, MFA) recently won a 2nd place award in the Colorado Independent Publishers Association’s annual EVVY Awards with his children’s book, The I-Wants and the Gimmies.

The book, released by Crimson Dragon Publishing in 2015, deals with the idea of sharing, and how it isn’t always easy for children to do. Overbey began working on the book during his time as a graduate student at KCAD, creating both the story and the illustrations.

The EVVY Awards are held on an international level, accepting an average of over 200 entries each year from all over the world. Now in its 22nd year, the annual competition stands as one of the longest-running independent book awards competition in existence. Judges are appointed through a rigorous qualification process, and include educators, authors, critics, editors, and others.

Outside of his children’s book work, Overbey recently accepted a teaching position at South Louisiana Community College in Layfayette, LA, where he serves as coordinator for the digital media program
