News Bites: Industrial Design Student Wins 2015 KCAD IDSA Student Merit Award
The Industrial Design program recently announced senior Mackenzie Smith as the recipient of KCAD’s 2015 Industrial Design Society of America (IDSA) Student Merit Award.
Each year, every college or university that has an active IDSA student chapter selects an outstanding Industrial Design junior or senior to receive this distinguished award. As the Student Merit Award winner, Smith was given the opportunity to represent KCAD at the 2015 IDSA Central District Design Conference (CDDC) in Columbus, OH, where she was able to showcase her creative talents by presenting her portfolio to an audience of industrial design students, educators, and professionals.
Smith also had the chance to soak up knowledge from a diverse lineup of guest speakers, including Michael Luh, vice president of innovation at Worthington Industries, and Tonya Matthews, president and CEO of Michigan Science Center, among others; as well as participate in a number of workshops and a portfolio review session sponsored by Eastman Innovation Lab.
