The Interior Design program’s collaboration with Kids’ Food Basket isn’t just limited to current students – alumni frequently get in on the action too, as was the case when seven grads recently joined professors Tara McCrackin and Lee Davis in packing sack suppers for area children in need.

The alumni – Emily May (’14), Jessica Bain (’12), Jessica Griffis (’05), Luanne Cammenga (’13), Melissa Powell-Sheppard (’00), Sarah Fall (’11), and Sarah Molina (’03) – are bonded by something other than a desire to help fight childhood hunger; all seven currently work for Progressive AE, a Grand Rapids-based architecture and engineering firm that employs a unique blend of creative professionals including interior designers, architects, civil engineers, planners, and consultants.

With structures and spaces such as Grand Rapids’ burgeoning Downtown Market and John Ball Zoo’s Bissell Treehouse to its credit, Progressive AE keeps its employees busy creating cutting-edge designs that help define the West Michigan community. But hectic work schedules didn’t stop these KCAD grads from taking the time to create another kind of impact, making a difference one sack dinner at a time.
