News Bites – Interior Design Student Wins National Kitchen and Bath Association Design Competition

Posted November 18, 2014 in News BitesInterior Design

Interior Design student Kaitlin O’Connell has won top honors in the Kitchen category of the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) State of Michigan Chapter’s Student Design Competition, along with a $300 prize.

The competition asked students from around Michigan to submit a residential kitchen or bathroom design that they had created either inside or outside of class, including a floor plan, at least two elevations, a design statement, and a rendered or perspective drawing. Entries were then judged on visual appeal, creativity, innovation, and use of design elements and principles.

O’Connell’s winning kitchen design, completed in her 3D Model Building class at KCAD, has a modern industrial feel and features intriguing elements like tree trunk shelves and a mix of exposed brick and painted walls.
