News Bites: KCAD Community Members Awarded Summer Scholarships to Ox-Bow School of Art

A number of KCAD community members were recently awarded scholarships to take courses this summer at the Ox-Bow School of Art in Saugatuck, MI. The 95 year-old school and artists’ residency offers one and two-week intensive summer courses designed to build knowledge, technical skill, and community.

Photography professor Darlene Kaczmarczyk won a $550 scholarship to take a class on printmaking relief and collage in which she hopes to continue to develop her recent experimentation with printmaking in her own work.

The following students and alumni were also awarded scholarships based on the merit of their work:


Amanda Opolski, Sculpture and Functional Art - $750
Jerydd Sprague, Sculpture and Functional Art - $750
Lydia Boda, Sculpture and Functional Art - $1,150
Molly Duff, Printmaking - $750
Sarah Lewis, Art History - $750


Jessica Shelton (’12, Metals and Jewelry Design) - $550
Trevor Rowely (’12, Printmaking) - $750

To help cover the remainder of the alumni and students' costs, Sculpture and Functional Art professor Israel Davis was able to secure an additional $5,930 in funding from Structural Concepts, a Muskegon, MI-based innovator of temperature-controlled food display cases for foodservice operators and supermarkets.
