Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts (UICA) has decided to get personal after the sweeping spectacle of ArtPrize this year with a new exhibition series that turns its focus away from the international stage and back to the Michigan arts community.

Titled “Coming Home,” the series showcases a wide variety of artists working and living in the state of Michigan, and many of the featured artists have ties to Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University (KCAD).

Jacob Wiseheart, who graduated from the Painting program in May of 2015 and is currently studying in the Masters of Arts in Visual and Critical Studies (MA:VCS) program, and Xiaolong “Paul” Fang, who graduated from the MFA Printmaking program in December of 2015, were both recently featured in separate solo exhibitions.

Current exhibitions in the “Coming Home” series include a solo exhibition by Illustration Assistant Professor Matt Schenk, which runs through February 28.

Three separate exhibitions featuring the work of recent graduate Aj Cooke (’15, MFA Painting), alum Eric German (’12, MFA Drawing), and recent graduate and UICA Fresh Pick winner Lydia Boda (’15, Sculpture and Functional Art) will all open on January 29 and run though March 20.

An opening reception for Cooke’s, German’s, and Boda’s exhibitions will be held on Friday, January 29 at 7pm, with a special preview for UICA members beginning at 6pm. For more information on the Coming Home schedule of events and exhibitions, click here.
