News Bites: KCAD Students Shine in Ferris State University’s 2016 SK8 Deck Design Competition
Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University (KCAD) students recently had the opportunity to apply their creative talents to the unusual medium of skateboard decks through a competition held in conjunction with the latest exhibition in the Ferris State Fine Art Gallery.
The 2016 SK8 Deck Design Competition challenged entrants to design original graphics for skateboard decks that tied into the theme of the exhibition, titled “Indie Incubator: All About the Vinyl,” which explores the power of music to transcend barriers.
First place and a $200 prize went to Graphic Design student Koko Watanabe. Her design “Music: It’s in Our DNA” features a colorful array of vinyl record-like shapes.
