The Ann Arbor PowerArt! Competition sought original works of art to be reproduced on a special vinyl material and wrapped around power boxes throughout downtown Ann Arbor, MI. The vinyl material is resistant to graffiti and is easily replaced if damaged, helping to protect the power boxes from vandalism.

The competition was open to artists from Washtenaw County. A jury of local artists and community members selected a number of the submissions to be reproduced, while others, including Downie’s, were selected via on online public vote.
“Winning this contest means a lot to me,” says Downie. “As a native of the Ann Arbor area, having one of my paintings on permanent display in the city makes me feel like a bigger part of the community.”
