The Grand Rapids Business Journal (GRBJ) has named two Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University (KCAD) alumni to its 2015 40 Under Forty list. The list focuses on emerging young professionals within the city of Grand Rapids. This year, Heather Duffy (’12, MFA Painting) and Salvador Jiménez (’14, MFA Drawing) have been named to the list, which is narrowed down to 40 recipients from over 150 nominations.

Duffy led the curatorial staff at the UICA this year, having just started in the spring. The UICA has already been recognized under her direction as a juror’s top five venue for ArtPrize. Duffy also had a hand in creating ArtPrize’s new Fellowship for Emerging Curators initiative. Prior to joining UICA Duffy served as ArtPrize’s exhibitions coordinator. She remains active in the greater arts community in Grand Rapids as an independent curator for Avenue for the Arts events.

Jiménez has been equally busy since graduating from KCAD, having been most recently awarded the Harvard Artist-In-Residence in Ceramics for 2015-2016. After exhibiting at the Grand Rapids Art Museum during ArtPrize last year, he had several of his pieces purchased for the museum’s permanent collection. He is also heavily involved in community art programs for kids in the surrounding area, most recently working with the Saugatuck Center for the Arts in their summer migrant program, Growing Young Artists.

GRBJ has been releasing this special edition highlighting the accomplishments of young business people in Grand Rapids for the past twenty years. The list is determined through a list of evaluation criteria including things like business accomplishments, recent awards, the breaking down of stereotypes, and new emerging ideas. Duffy and Jiménez will be officially honored at an award ceremony on October 27, 2015.
