News Bites: Student Wins Society of Children s Book Writers and Illustrators Scholarship

Posted December 22, 2014 in Student, News Bites

Illustration student Fan Wu recently became one of only four students nationwide to win a Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) Student Illustrator Scholarship in 2014.

Each year, the SCBWI sponsors four such scholarships that enable the recipients to attend the one of the organization’s two annual conferences – held in New York City and Los Angeles – free of charge. Graduate and undergraduate students from around the country submit three examples of their work, a faculty recommendation, and a short essay explaining their interest in attending a SCBWI conference.

Wu’s scholarship will take him to the Big Apple, where he’ll spend February 6-8 exclusively plugged into the children’s book industry. He’ll have the chance to network with its top editors, agents, art directors, authors, and illustrators; display his work in a Portfolio Showcase; and participate in intensive sessions for writers and illustrators who want to digger deeper into their respective crafts.
