Paint That Pops: Alum’s 3D Paintings Profiled by SB Magazine

Posted August 2, 2017 in AlumniMaster of Fine ArtsMFA Painting

Don’t call John Wagoner’s artwork sculpture. At first glance, the Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University (KCAD) alumnus’ (’09, MFA) unique pieces appear to be composed of a number of different materials, but they’re actually made entirely out of paint.

Dubbed “three-dimensional paintings” by the artist, Wagoner’s work defies boundaries, turning traditional notions of what a painting can be on their head. He’s been featured in solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States, most recently as the featured artist in the Bossier Arts Council’s Wine, Art, and Music festival, held in Bossier, La.

Wagoner has also been profiled by publications such as Studio Visit Magazine, ArtofDay.com, and, most recently by SB Magazine, which explored his eccentric artistic process in an article found here.

In addition to his work as an artist, Wagoner is an assistant professor at Bossier Parish Community College in Louisiana. He teaches courses in art history and several studio art disciplines, including painting, drawing, 3D design, and ceramics.
