Advanced Studies in Design and Innovation Management Certificate

The Advanced Studies in Design and Innovation Management Certificate program blends learning formats for a flexible structure that caters to a variety of learning styles. The majority of the coursework is online, taught by KCAD faculty. The weekend learning, brainstorming, simulation and collaboration sessions are taught by visiting professors at the beginning and end of each seven-week course.

The certificate can be completed in two semesters. The introductory course, KDES 650, is the prerequisite to the other courses, which we recommend taking in sequence.

Online classes

The majority of Advanced Studies in Design and Innovation Management Certificate coursework is online, taught by KCAD faculty members. Online classes provide a convenient and engaging way to interact with professors and other students, using online communication tools such as FerrisConnect, FSU s web portal; Skype and Google docs.

You will need to have consistent access to a computer with internet capabilities. A satellite, DSL or cable modem connection is recommended.

Course delivery is via FerrisConnect. Assignments are posted and submitted online; class/group discussions and chat are conducted online. Reading assignments are based on both textbooks and linked documents contained in the class portal. Feedback and grades from the professor are also contained in the class portal.

Weekend sessions

The intensive weekend sessions are held at the beginning and end of each seven-week course, at Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids, MI. They are led by KCAD faculty and visiting professors - business leaders renowned for their design leadership expertise. See Business Leaders, below, for more information.

Because course content is updated constantly, the sessions will be different for each course. Local community resources are used to provide a design experience and establish context for the course work.

Weekend sessions are held at Kendall College of Art and Design, Saturdays and Sundays from 8:30 am 3:30 pm. Visiting professors guide the sessions and provide group/team assignments and the final project.

Because the weekend sessions are critical to the courses, they are mandatory. Please be sure, before enrolling in a course, that you are available on the necessary weekends.
